FTA approves over €913 million for LA Inglewood Transit Connector

The US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has approved funding of over €913 million (US$1 billion) for the Inglewood Transit Connector project. The project is a planned three-station automated people mover between the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (LACMTA) K Line and the residential, employment, sports, and entertainment centres of the city of Inglewood. The Capital Investment Grant (CIG) funds will cover 50% of the expected total cost of the project, which the city says will transport up to 11,000 passengers per hour. The CIG commitment follows a positive assessment by the FTA, which reviewed the project cost, potential for strong ridership demand, and strong community support. The project had already secured €794.8 million in local, state, and federal funding. The city has partnered with LACMTA to form the Inglewood Transit Connector Joint Powers Authority (JPA), which will be responsible for the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of the system. Three pre-qualified teams are currently preparing bids to implement the project, with selection expected in summer 2024.
