Antioquia plans extensive railway network

The Colombian region of Antioquia is planning to build at least nine railway projects by 2058. The region's master plan for transport and logistics foresees a total of 104 short, medium, and long-term projects with a provisionally estimated total investment volume of around €31 billion (BOB 138 trillion), including land acquisition and maintenance investments. Antioquia aims to have a 2,159 km rail network for regional and long-distance freight and passenger services by 2058. In the short term, the first sections of the Tren del Río line between Barbosa and Aguacatala are planned between 2024 and 2034, as well as the first section of the Tren Verde line between Puerto Berrío and Cisneros. In the medium term, between 2035 and 2044, Antioquia plans to work on the Caldas – Pradera freight line, stage 1 of the Urabá – Sopetrán line, the second section of the Tren del Río line between Aguacatala and Caldas and the second section of the Cisneros – Pradera Tren Verde line. In the long term, projects such as the Tren del Pacífico high-speed rail (HSR) line between Antioquia and Cundinamarca and the Tren del Café line are planned between 2045 and 2058.
