Amtrak receives €9.4 billion for railway projects on NEC

Amtrak has received approx. €9.4 billion (US$10 billion) in funding from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to modernise the rail infrastructure on the Northeast Corridor (NEC), improve stations and expand passenger train services. The funds will be used to finance 12 projects, including the modernisation of the Frederick Douglass Tunnel and the rehabilitation of the Susquehanna River Rail Bridge. The projects are part of the FRA's Federal-State Partnership for Interstate Passenger Rail (Fed-State NEC) programme. Amtrak applied for funding for the rail projects along the Northeast Corridor in June 2023.
