Alstom consortium opens first phase of Montreal REM metro network

The Groupe PMM consortium led by Alstom, together with its customer CDPQ Infra, inaugurated the first phase of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM), a new automated urban rail system, in Montreal on 28th July 2023. When completed, the REM will be 67 km long with 26 stations connecting downtown Montreal to the south, north and west coasts, as well as Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. Groupe PMM has supplied the REM with a complete driverless automated metro system, including vehicles and signalling, and will operate and maintain the entire system for 30 years. The first section, between Brossard and Montreal Central Station, covers 17 km and includes five stations equipped with a system of platform screen doors installed by Alstom. 80 Metropolis metro cars will be used on this section, which started commercial service on 31st July 2023.
