ZTM tenders first underground LRT line in Warsaw

The Warsaw public transport authority ZTM has published a tender for the construction of the city’s first underground light rail transit (LRT) line. The 1.6 km line is planned to connect the city centre via the Ochota district in the west to the Dworzec Zachodnia railway station, which is currently undergoing modernisation and construction works. Construction works are planned to start in 2024 at the earliest, and the selected contractor is expected to complete the works within 26 months. The project cost has been estimated at €47.7 million (PLN224 million), which will be co-financed by the European Union under the infrastructure, climate and environment programme for 2021-2027. The underground LRT line will become part of the Wola – Wilanów LRT line.
