VNR plans to expand five new border crossings

The Vietnamese state railway VNR has announced plans to expand its international railway network with five border crossings to China, Laos, and Cambodia. The planned border crossings include two existing lines to China, two new lines to be built to Laos, and a planned line to Cambodia. The connection with the Chinese railway network has already been established and enables the transport of goods via China to Central Asian countries and from there to Europe and the Middle East. The planned border crossings are part of the national railway network plan for the period 2021 to 2030, with a vision to 2050. VNR has also announced the modernisation and renovation of Song Than railway station, whose freight capacity is to be increased to 3.5 million t per year in the period from 2025 to 2030. The volume of international rail freight transport is expected to reach around 4 to 5 million t per year by 2030.
