Upgrade of rolling highway in Lleida area from 2024

The Spanish rail infrastructure operator Adif has announced further projects for the upgrade of the Zaragoza – Tarragona rolling highway. In the first quarter of 2024, Adif intends to invite bids for the development of projects to adapt the loading gauges of six tunnels and 16 overpasses in the Lleida area. The expansion of the existing broad-gauge line in Lleida is estimated to cost €60 million. The line, which is linked to the Mediterranean corridor, has the highest demand in the entire Spanish rail network, with more than 100 round trips per week and direction, and is of central importance for rail and intermodal freight transport between ports and the hinterland.
