Excavation has been completed for the south portal of the El Rincón tunnel on the new Murcia – Almería high-speed rail (HSR) line. The excavation of the 928 m long tunnel on the Lorca – Pulpí section of the Mediterranean Corridor represents a new technical challenge due to the terrain and environmental characteristics, according to Spanish HSR infrastructure manager Adif AV. Adif AV reports an advance of 4 m per day thanks to new technology despite terrain difficulties and while minimising the environmental impact.
