TRAN calls for better coordination of rail capacity

The European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) has spoken out in support of improved coordination of rail transport capacity to avoid delays and increase reliability. The committee voted for a higher level of authority for the European Network of Infrastructure Managers (ENIM) to coordinate cross-border capacities and for the establishment of a European Railway Platform comprising railway companies, ports, and other service providers in order to incorporate perspectives into capacity planning. Capacity planning is to be divided into three phases, with strategic planning taking place at five-year intervals. The committee also called for at least five-year investment agreements with EU governments to drive forward the expansion of railway infrastructure.
