The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) on 14th September 2023 for the design and construction of a €3.4 billion (US$3.6 billion), 9 km Red Line extension and four stations. The tender was sent to three contractors previously selected by the CTA, Kiewit Infrastructure, a joint venture (JV) of FH Paschen, Ragnar Benson, Milhouse and BOWA, and Walsh Vinci Transit Community Partners, which demonstrated its capability through a qualification requirement process. The project is expected to be awarded in 2024. The CTA expects to begin main construction on this project in 2025 and plans to begin preliminary work in 2024.
