Systra completes acquisition of two tunnel designers

French engineering and consulting group Systra has completed the acquisition of two companies specialising in tunnel and underground construction. These are Bamser from Australia and Subterra from Spain. The acquisition of Bamser strengthens Systra's position in Australia and New Zealand, where the company employs 160 people and has many major projects under contract. Subterra has around 100 employees in locations in Spain, Peru, Chile, and Colombia. The acquisitions follow Systra's purchase of Italian engineering company SWS Engineering in 2021. In Spain, Systra's activities include the modernisation of the metro network in Bilbao and high-speed rail (HSR) lines. For this reason, the company has also set up a new subsidiary named Systra Ibérica, which will cover the markets in Spain and Portugal.
