Systra and Zöllner develop automated warning system for construction sites

In collaboration with the German manufacturer of safety systems Zöllner Signal, the transport consultancy Systra has developed an automated warning system for construction sites on the French rail network that uses light and sound signals to warn of approaching trains. The aim is to increase the safety of personnel on construction sites and reduce dependence on manual safety announcements. A feasibility study was carried out by Systra in partnership with Maintenance SEA (MESEA) on the Southern Europe-Atlantic high-speed rail (HSR) line and confirmed the effectiveness of the system. The new system, which does not require modifications to existing station and signalling infrastructure, complex cabling, or on-site detection equipment, can be implemented on any line equipped with the European ERTMS Level 2 train control system.
