Tunnel construction work has begun on the 878 m long Viator tunnel under the La Juaida industrial area in the province of Almería on the 200 km long Murcia – Almería high-speed rail (HSR) line. Construction company Convensa is driving the tunnel in the section between Níjar and Almería for the first time in Spain using the Belgian construction method from both exits almost simultaneously. A complex system of monitoring and ground reinforcement measures is being used at certain points along the tunnel route under the buildings and roads of the industrial area.
