Start of construction for IRC expansion planned for late summer 2024

The construction phase for the expansion of the industrial rail freight transport corridor (IRC) at the Port of Longview in the US state of Washington is expected to start in late summer 2024. The €78.4 million (US$85 million) project includes the construction of a six-track rail bed with a connection to the existing rail freight transport corridor, the construction of two additional tracks with a length of around 2,600 m and the extension of existing tracks to 2,600 m. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Funding has been obtained from various sources, including federal, state, and local authorities. In 2021, the port received a grant of €14.8 million from the US Department of Transportation's (USDOT) RAISE programme. A further €1.8 million each came from the Washington State Freight Rail Assistance Programme and Cowlitz County's Rural Development Programme.
