Start of construction for HSR viaduct over Rio Ebro

Spanish high-speed rail (HSR) infrastructure manager Adif AV has announced the start of construction of a bridge over the Ebro river on the Castejón – Comarca de Pamplona HSR line in Navarre. The contract, worth €58.8 million with a 42-month duration, was awarded by Adif AV to Ferrovial Construcciones at the end of May 2023. The 700 m viaduct must have piers with a circular cross-section defined by the Ebro Hydrographic Association. The locations of the piers, defined to minimise the impact on riverside vegetation, result in 12 different arch spans ranging from 50 to 85 m in length. Initially, preparatory works for construction and further geological and archaeological surveys will be realised. The section is part of the Cantabria – Mediterranean HSR corridor.
