The extension of the line from Alexandroupoli to Ormenio on the border with Bulgaria will only be electrified with a single track instead of the originally planned double-track extension. The decision of railroad infrastructure manager OSE to realise the line in eastern Thrace, which is important for the Sea2Sea project and the connection to the port of Alexandroupoli, in a reduced form is linked to the redirection of funds from the Recovery Fund. These funds are now being prioritised for the repair of storm damage in Thessaly. The single-track variant is intended to cover transport requirements for the foreseeable future.
