Siemens Mobility to equip railway network with ETCS Level 2

Siemens Mobility has been awarded the contract to equip part of the Finnish railway network with the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2. This is part of the Finnish government's Digirail project, which aims to modernise the national train control system. The first phase of the project concerns the 191 km section of line between Lielahti and Rauma-Pori. Siemens will implement the interlocking and train control technology based on the new DS3 platform. Commissioning of this section of line is planned for 2027. Siemens Mobility has already entered into a partnership with the Finnish leasing company Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto Oy to carry out the first ETCS tests in Finland. As part of this cooperation, two multiple-unit trains will be equipped with Trainguard OBU technology and Automated Train Operation (ATO) via ETCS.
