Siemens and Thales selected to automate the S-Tog network

Rail technology suppliers Siemens Mobility and Thales Ground Transportation Systems have qualified for a contract to supply support systems for the automation of the S-Tog suburban rail network in Copenhagen. The contract covers the provision of a wide range of technical equipment to support the network's transition to fully automated operation, including CCTV and emergency stop buttons on the platforms, as well as a system for recognising people and objects on the tracks. Danish state railway DSB is planning to award the contract for the support systems by the end of 2025. The first driverless S-Tog trains are scheduled to run on the Ringbanen line section from 2030, and the entire network is to be fully automated by around 2037.
