Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (Septa) has ended all development of the King of Prussia (KOP) Rail Project, after it was not recommended for federal New Starts funding in the 2024 financial year. The proposed 6.4 km five-station branch of Philadelphia’s Norristown High Speed Line, a third-rail interurban line, was estimated to cost €1.94 billion (US$2.08 billion) in August 2020, €2.4 billion (US$2.6 billion) in August 2022, and €2.82 billion (US$3.02 billion) in March 2023. Septa blames inflation and high interest rates for the cost increases.
