São Paulo plans €6.3 billion for new Pink metro line 20

São Paulo Metro is planning to build the new Pink metro line 20, which will connect the city of Santo André with São Paulo, at an investment cost of €6.3 billion (US$6.7 billion). The 33 km line with 24 stations is scheduled for completion in November 2024, according to São Paulo Metro planning and environmental manager Luiz Antônio Cortez. The line will run from Santa Marina in the west to the centre of Santo André, serving business districts in São Paulo. The line, which will be used by 1.29 million passengers daily, will require 50 trains and two maintenance depots to operate. Line 20/Pink will provide connections to metro lines 1/Blue, 2/Green, 4/Yellow, 5/Purple, and 6/Orange, as well as commuter train lines 7/Ruby and 8/Diamond. Completion of the entire line is planned for 2040, although the financing model has yet to be determined.
