Rumo starts work on new rail line in Mato Grosso

Freight concessionaire Rumo Logística is starting construction of the new 211 km Rondonópolis – Campo Verde railway line for EUR 868 million (BRL 4.5 billion). Due to be completed in three years, this is the first phase of Rumo’s EUR 2.1 billion (BRL 11 billion) programme to build 730 km of new railway in Mato Grosso, comprising the line from Rondonópolis to Campo Verde that will be extended to Lucas do Rio Verde and a second line from Rondonópolis to Cuiabá. The programme will involve the construction of 22 bridges totalling 11.5 km in length, 21 viaducts and 2 km of tunnels. Track laying will require 1.4 million sleepers as well as 108,000 t of rail and is to be completed in 2030.
