Rio de Janeiro government approves law to reactivate 14 railway lines

The government of the Brazilian federal state of Rio de Janeiro sanctioned a law on 6th October 2022 that provides for the reactivation of 14 railway lines throughout the state under a public-private partnership (PPP). The lines to be reactivated include the Barrinha line, which connects Barra do Piraí in the south of Rio de Janeiro with Japeri in the Baixada Fluminense, as well as lines in the Rio metropolitan region and in the north of the state. The measure is an addition to Law 8.210/18, a programme to restore the railway network with tourist destinations.
