RFI awards two contracts on Rome – Pescara line

Italian infrastructure operator RFI has awarded two contracts with a total value of €477 million for modernisation works on the Rome – Pescara railway line. The companies Salcef and Eteria Consorzio Stabile Scarl have been awarded the contracts for the sections between the Interporto D'Abruzzo intermodal hub and Manoppello and between Manoppello and Scafa, worth €142.7 million and €334.9 million respectively. The main construction works include the 5 km double-track expansion and an electrical substation between Interporto D'Abruzzo and Manoppello, as well as the double-track expansion over 8 km and modifications to the Alanno and Scafa railway stations on the section between Manoppello and Scafa. Road and junction reconstructions are also planned. Once all the planned work has been completed, the journey time between Rome and Pescara is planned to be reduced to two hours, which corresponds to a saving of 80 minutes. On the line between the Interporto D'Abruzzo and Scafa, train capacity will be increased from four to ten trains per hour.
