Renfe starts restructuring as part of 2028 strategic plan

The Spanish state railway Renfe is launching a transformation of its organisational structure as part of the 2028 Strategic Plan, which was approved at an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors on 12th January 2024. The objectives of the new Renfe28 plan include strengthening public transport services with 406 new trains by 2028, market leadership in the liberalised high-speed rail (HSR) sector, the consolidation of Renfe Mercancias as an end-to-end logistics provider, and the transformation of Renfe Engineering and Maintenance to optimise production processes. In addition, Renfe aims to strengthen its presence in other markets worldwide. The organisational changes include the restructuring of the current General Development and Strategy Department into a General Department of Innovation, Sustainability, and Digital Transformation, the consolidation of Renfe Internacional as a public company fully owned by the Renfe Group, and the transformation of the current General Department of Safety, Organisation, and Human Resources into the new General Department of Organisation and Talent.
