Railway industry records 7% increase in revenues in 2023

Czech companies in the railway industry, which are members of the ACRI association, generated revenues of around €5.2 billion (CZK 130 billion) in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 7%. The sector, which employs around 22,000 people and contributes 1.5% to the Czech Republic's GDP, is boosted by exports, particularly to EU countries, Serbia, Turkey, and India. The export volume totalled €2.6 billion. Trinecké železárny, part of the Moravia Steel Group and the only manufacturer of rails and railway accessories in the Czech Republic, produced around 250,000 t of these products in 2023 and exported to 60 countries. The export share was 89%. The Skoda Group signed major contracts at home and abroad, including light rail vehicles (LRV) for Kassel and Brno and other rail vehicles for Italy, Finland, and Uzbekistan. AZD Praha carried out the installation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) on several lines in the Czech Republic and modernisations in Poland in 2023. Bonatrans, a manufacturer of bogies, recorded revenues of €323 million and plans to expand its business to markets in the UK, Scandinavia, China, and India. Dako-CZ, a manufacturer of braking systems for rail vehicles, secured orders for LRVs in Gothenburg and collaborated with Skoda on the supply of braking systems.
