The governments of Spain and Morocco have decided to resume the development of proposals for a railway tunnel under the Strait of Gibraltar. Studies for an intercontinental fixed link have been realised at intervals of more than 40 years, under the coordination of the government agencies Secegsa in Spain and SNED in Morocco. Although Secegsa has not been allocated a budget in recent years, the organisation has now received €2.3 million under the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility to update the results of previous studies.
