ProRail starts upgrade works on 's-Hertogenbosch – Vught line

On 27th November 2023, Dutch infrastructure operator ProRail began construction works to increase capacity on the line between 's-Hertogenbosch and Vught. The work involves expanding the line from three to four tracks between 's-Hertogenbosch and the junction at Vught, where the lines to Tilburg and Eindhoven branch off. Completion is planned for 2030 and is part of the national programme for high-frequency rail transport (PHS), which is intended to enable more frequent passenger transport services. In combination with other nearby projects, the capacity on the line between Meeteren and Boxtel will be increased. In addition, ProRail has now suspended the preparatory work for the modernisation of the Leiden – Utrecht line, including land acquisition, due to project cost overruns and is now seeking additional funding together with the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Province of South Holland, and the municipalities along the line. A final decision is expected in spring 2024, which means that the project will no longer be completed in 2026 as originally planned.
