Preparatory work for electrification between Ourense and Monforte

Spanish rail infrastructure manager Adif has announced construction work as part of the electrification of the 45 km Ourense – Monforte de Lemos line. With an investment volume of €24.3 million, the line is to be converted to 25 kV AC. At the same time, electrification of the Monforte de Lemos – Lugo section is planned at a cost of a further €17.2 million. To enable the installation of the new electrification elements, Adif will carry out track and infrastructure works between Ourense and Monforte from 21st November 2022, such as the adaptation of bridges, viaducts and tunnels, enlargement of the clearance gauge and renewal of drainage systems. The work will be carried out with the line closed, and is expected to be completed by July 2023. The Spanish state railway Renfe is providing rail replacement services. According to Adif, around 85% of the estimated investment in the 117 km line between Ourense and the high-speed rail (HSR) line to Galicia has already been mobilised.
