Metro do Porto, the operator of the light rail transit (LRT) network in the Portuguese city of Porto, has tendered the construction of the Ruby Line between Campo Alegre in Porto and Santo Ovídio in the neighbouring city of Vila Nova de Gaia. The tender for the design of the line was launched in April 2021 and eleven bids were received by Metro do Porto. The construction of the 6.3 km second LRT line includes a new bridge over the Douro River and two new tunnels. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026, with a tender deadline of 17th July 2023. The total budget has been increased from €299 million to €435 million due to rising construction costs. The budget was also adjusted for the Yellow and Pink Lines, which are still under construction.
