Planning of HSR section Palencia – Cantabria to be tendered

The construction project for the 51.4 km high-speed rail (HSR) link between Alar de Rey (Palencia) and Reinosa (Cantabria), including the renovation of the Aguilar de Campoo station, is about to begin. The Spanish Council of Ministers has authorised the Ministry of Transport (Mitma) to put out to tender the planning of the missing section of a continuous HSR line between the centre of Spain and Cantabria via HSR infrastructure operator Adif AV for a net amount of €19 million. The detailed planning includes the substructure of the 44.4 km double-track HSR section in standard gauge, the 7 km single-track approach to Aguilar de Campoo, as well as the adaptation of the station for HSR operation and the expected increase in demand. The HSR project is estimated to cost €800 million.
