Polish infrastructure manager PKP PLK has published tenders for two design contracts regarding projects in the Silesia region. The projects are aimed at improving the connection between Katowice and Bytom and will be carried out under the Kolej Plus programme. The first tender includes the modernisation of the passenger rail line between Katowice Ligota and Tychy. The project worth EUR29.7 million (PLN140 million) includes a passing loop in Murcki and the construction of three collision-free intersections of tracks with roads at level crossings. Construction is planned to begin in 2026 and to be completed in 2028. The second tender includes a direct connection from Bytom to Zabrze, Ruda Chebzie and Katowice. The project includes the construction of 5 km of track and the modernisation of an existing 4 km section between Zabrze Biskupice and Ruda Chebzie. Two new stops will be also constructed. Construction could be carried out from 2026 to 2028 and the project is estimated at €57.3 million.
