The Spanish rail infrastructure operator Adif signed a cooperation agreement at the beginning of June 2023 with Rail & Truck Strait Union (RTSU), the logistics company Grupo Pantoja, and the Port Authority of Seville (APS) for the transport of semi-trailers by rail between the port in Seville, a terminal in Guadalquivir and the rail terminal in Madrid-Vicálvaro. The introduction of the piggyback service is planned for 2025. As part of the cooperation, Adif will undertake the work on the gauge of tunnels, bridges, flyovers and electrification elements, Pantoja will procure P400 semi-trailers, and RTSU will provide resources and funds for procurements of special wagons. For the time being, the Madrid-Abroñigal terminal will be used as a trans-shipment terminal for the service, until the works on the Madrid-Vicálvaro line are completed.
