Passenger operations start on Honolulu metro

Passenger operations have begun on the metro network in Honolulu in Hawaii. The new line has been opened on behalf of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) and the city's Department of Transportation Services (DTS). This the first fully-automated urban railway system to operate at Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4) in the US. The first phase of the elevated line runs for nearly 17.7 km from East Kapolei to Aloha Stadium with nine stations. The second phase, which is expected to be operational by 2025, adds an additional 8.3 km and four stations from Aloha Stadium to Middle Street-Kalihi Transit Center. The third phase will add 4.8 km and six stations to a temporary terminus at the Civic Center station in Kakaako. An additional 1.6 km of metro line and two stations that will run to Ala Moana Transit Center will be completed in a later phase. The project had experienced several delays.
