PAC investment plan includes metro projects for first time

The Brazilian government has included metro projects for the first time in its latest Growth Acceleration Plan (PAC), covering 15 urban transport systems. The third part of the government's infrastructure investment package was announced on 11th August 2023 and includes an estimated total investment of €312.8 billion (BRL 1.7 trillion), including €275.6 billion to be invested by 2026 and €55.2 billion to be invested after 2026. Of this amount, about €6.1 billion is allocated for urban transport. The plan includes 13 urban transport projects, including eight that are under construction and five that are still being studied. It will also support the TIC São Paulo – Campinas intercity project. The new PAC includes provisions to attract investment partners to support rail freight transport projects such as the West-East Integration Railway (Fiol), the Transnordestina Railway and the Ferrogrão Line between Mato Grosso and Pará.
