Opening of two HSR tracks at Madrid Chamartín station

Adif AV, the infrastructure manager for the Spanish high-speed rail (HSR) network, has fully opened two tracks as part of the conversion of the Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor HSR station. Tracks 14 and 15 were converted from Iberian broad gauge to European standard gauge. In order to double the HSR capacity of the Madrid station from the original six tracks to 12 tracks plus a stabling track, tracks 20 and 21 were converted into through-tracks, tracks 14 and 15 were converted to standard gauge, and four new tracks are still being built. Once the measures have been completed, Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor station will have 27 tracks: 12 standard-gauge tracks for high-speed trains (HST) and 15 broad-gauge tracks for suburban, regional, and long-distance trains.
