ÖBB to modernise Vienna S-Bahn trunk line

Austrian state railway ÖBB will modernise and expand the trunk line of the Vienna suburban rail (S-Bahn) network for €1.1 billion by 2027. On the 13 km line from Meidling via the main station to Floridsdorf, structures, tracks, and overhead lines will be renewed, platforms extended, and the European Train Control System (ETCS) installed. This will enable trains to run every 2.5 minutes. The trunk line is currently used by 700 trains per day, transporting 250,000 passengers.
