ÖBB maintenance vehicle converted to fuel cell drive

ÖBB-Technische Services, the maintenance subsidiary of the Austrian state railway ÖBB, has converted an OBB X534 overhead line construction and maintenance vehicle from diesel to fuel cell drive in collaboration with the engineering firm m.ZERO. The HY2RAIL project involved the integration of fuel cell modules from Accelera, a company owned by US engine manufacturer Cummins, into the vehicle, supplemented by a battery to create a hybrid drive system. This system is intended to replace a diesel drive with a generator.
