Moscow opens MCD-3 line

On 17th August 2023, the third Moscow Central Diameter (MCD-3) commuter line was inaugurated. The 85 km MCD-3 line connects districts in the north-west and south-east of Moscow via a new mainly overground cross-city line, serving a total of 38 stations. The new line connects a total of 24 districts in Moscow and four in the Moscow region, providing access to rail services for 3.5 million inhabitants. The construction of the MCD-3 line has connected previously unconnected sections of the Moscow suburban rail network. The opening of the MCD-3 line is expected to reduce congestion on three metro lines and provide an alternative routing for 15% of passengers.
