Mitma to invest €18.3 million in renovation of Granada – Almería line

The Spanish Ministry of Transport (Mitma) has allocated €18.3 million for the planning of renovation and adaptation work on the Granada – Almería line. The measures, which mainly concern rail freight transport, include track renewal work, the adaptation of the tunnel profiles for the electrification of the line at 25 kV AC, and the modernisation of some stations to be able to accommodate 750 m long freight trains and increase the speed of passenger rail transport to 250 km/h. The approx. 180 km line is part of the Trans-European Rail Network (TEN-T) Mediterranean corridor. The contract was divided into five lots.
