On 10th January 2024, the Spanish Ministry of Transport (Mitma) agreed to form a political commission to examine the transfer of the Rodalies regional and suburban rail network in Catalonia to the regional government. The commission, consisting of representatives from Mitma and the Catalan regional government, will begin its work at the beginning of February 2024. It will discuss the future financing and transfer of train operations and also consider the possible transfer of rail infrastructure to Catalonia. The commission's tasks will also include the creation of a new operating company called Rodalies de Catalunya, which will be owned by both the Spanish and Catalan governments. Mitma will continue negotiations with the railway unions at state-owned railway company Renfe and infrastructure manager Adif, with the Spanish government pledging to guarantee the current conditions at all times.
