Mitma awards contracts for station expansion on Zaragoza – Tarragona line

The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (Mitma) has awarded a construction contract worth €10 million to the construction company Coalvi via infrastructure manager Adif for the extension of the sidings at Chiprana and Nonaspe stations in Zaragoza and Flix in Tarragona. The aim of the work is to increase the useful length of the sidings to 750 m in order to allow trains of that length to be parked. The extension is part of a larger agreement between Adif, Puertos del Estado, and the Port Authority of Barcelona, financed by the Financial Fund for the Development of Ports, and is intended to promote rail freight transport with the Port of Barcelona. In addition to the above-mentioned works, Adif is planning to extend the railway sidings at a further seven stations between Zaragoza and Tarragona, for which an investment of €36.2 million is planned and which are currently in the tendering phase.
