The Spanish Ministry of Transport (Mitma) has announced €185 million for an extension of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in the Bay of Palma de Mallorca, one of the Balearic Islands. The master plan for the LRT line includes three sections: Plaza de España (Intermodal) – Can Pastilla – Airport (Section I), Can Pastilla – s'Arenal (Section II) and Plaza de España (Intermodal) – Son Espases (Section III). The new funds will go to Section I, a double-track LRT line about 10.9 km long with 16 stops between the centre of Palma and the airport, which is to run entirely overground.
