Ministry of Transport presents railway development plan

On 3rd August 2023, the Hungarian Ministry of Transport presented a ten-year investment plan for the modernisation of the national railway network and the acquisition of new rail vehicles. Accordingly, the ministry will present a programme to the government. Special attention will be paid to the modernisation of the HÉV lines for suburban rail transport in Budapest, as well as to the improvement of the rail connections between the major cities and the lines running through Hungary. The ministry stressed that European funds and money market instruments will be used for these investments and the development of Hungary's own railway industry. The amount needed could be up to €15.4 billion (HUF 6 trillion). Until then, the daily operation of the system should be ensured without accidents.
