Metrorex awards contract for second section of Bucharest metro line to airport

Metrorex, the operator of Bucharest's metro network, has contracted a consortium of Turkish construction company Gülermak and Romanian company Somet to design and build the second section of the M6 metro line to Henri Coanda International Airport in Otopeni. The new line includes a total of 12 stations. The contract value is €263.17 million (RON1.3 billion) and is partially financed by a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). In March 2022, a consortium of Alsim Alarko Sanayi Tesisleri and Makyol Insaat Sanayi Turizm was contracted to build the May 1 – Tokyo section of the M6 line. Construction of both sections is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2023.
