MCD-4 line opened in Moscow

On 9th September 2023, the MCD-4 line was inaugurated as the fourth commuter rail line of the Moscow Central Diameter (MCD) network. The 86 km MCD-4 line runs from Aprelevka in the west to Zheleznodorozhnaya in the east and includes 36 stations, including seven interchanges with main railway lines and 18 interchanges with metro and other suburban lines. New Ivolga 4.0 electric multiple units (EMU) from manufacturer TMH are scheduled to start service in 2025. The opening of the MCD-4 line is expected to reduce ridership on nearby metro lines by 9% as passengers transfer to the new service. MCD-4 ridership is estimated to reach up to 270,000 passengers per day by the end of 2023, and the line is designed to handle up to 455,000 passengers per day.
