Last transport contract signed between Ministry of Transport and DSB

The Danish Ministry of Transport signed a final transport contract with Danish state railway DSB on 15th December 2023 and at the same time launched a tender analysis for competition. This contract will be the last of its kind, as European Union (EU) legislation requires future tenders for train transport. The contract, which is valid until 10th December 2033, defines the level of remuneration and the transport services to be provided by DSB. DSB receives around €440 million per year and retains the risk in terms of fare revenue. The contract also includes a number of performance improvements, including shorter journey times, increased transport volumes, increased investment in stations, and CO2-neutral train journeys through the phasing out of diesel multiple units (DMU). The government and DSB will now carry out a budget and sector analysis that can form the basis for a political position on a future tender. This process is part of the Infrastructure Plan 2035, which provides for investments in the modernisation and expansion of the railways in Denmark.
