KCIC concession for Jakarta – Bandung HSR line extended to 80 years

The concession for the Jakarta – Bandung high-speed rail (HSR) line under construction, signed by the KCIC consortium in April 2017, has been extended from 50 to 80 years. This is due to the sharp increase in construction costs, which greatly affects the project's economic viability. The opening of the HSR line will also be delayed to July 2023 at the earliest after a maintenance train and locomotive derailed on the line in mid-December 2022. The 142 km line will connect the capital Jakarta with Bandung in West Java province. Trial operation is scheduled to start in May 2023.
