Intercor and Stecol win major contract in Katowice

Polish infrastructure operator PKP PLK has awarded the Polish-Chinese consortium of Intercor and Stecol a contract to extend a main railway line through Katowice and rebuild Katowice station. The contract, which has a budget of around €895 million (PLN 4 billion), was won through an electronic auction. The consortium plans to realise the main works in Silesia for a gross cost of €856 million. The works include the modernisation of 14 platforms, the construction of seven new stations and the renovation of bridges and viaducts. The works are to be completed within four years. The project is to receive funding of €937 million from the CEF instrument, representing 85% of the estimated value of the works.
