Integration of rail infrastructure in Vilafranca del Penedès

The Spanish railroad infrastructure managers Adif and Adif AV have agreed with the Catalan city of Vilafranca del Penedès on further work to improve the integration of rail in urban areas. The plan is to cover a 220 m long new broad-gauge line and high-speed rail (HSR) infrastructure, as well as other measures to improve availability and accessibility of rail facilities. Sound barriers, escalators and new safety elements are to be installed in the station. Urban development activities are also planned. Of the total cost of €16.9 million, existing network manager Adif will cover €12.5 million, HSR infrastructure operator Adif AV €3.6 million and the city of Vilafranca del Penedès €0.8 million, payable in five annual instalments until 2028.
