Infrastructure project in Queensland reaches significant milestone

The Bruce Highway-Cairns Southern Access Corridor (Stage 3)-Edmonton to Gordonvale infrastructure project in the Far North Queensland region of Australia worth €316 million (AU$ 535 million) has reached a major milestone with the completion of the Menmuny overpass. Construction of the 10.5 km widened and improved section of the Bruce Highway between Edmonton and Gordonvale started in May 2020, and involved more than 200 million labour hours with over 300 local suppliers and contractors. In addition to the highway widening and improvements, the project also includes a 4.5 km Queensland Rail North Coast Line railway line upgrade and realignment, new and improved intersections, improved local roads, as well as new road and rail bridges. Funding was provided by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, with the Australian government contributing €253 million and the Queensland state government contributing €63 million. The project is scheduled to be fully open to transport services by the end of August 2023, with minor remaining works to be completed in September 2023. The implementation of the project was realised by a joint venture (JV) of John Holland, Seymour Whyte, and Aecom.
